  I highly recommend using a golf cart to get around if you're staying a few days or more on Ocracoke, and if you do, I also suggest getting your rental from Wheelie Fun Cart Rentals. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cart was a standard golf cart but worked fine and having it to use made the visit much more enjoyable.
